The Magic of Modern Calligraphy

The use of modern calligraphy has become so popular, and for good reason! It looks stunning, elegant and artistic, and is also somewhat therapeutic. In terms of your wedding, it can add a creative and chic aspect that can even play a huge part in branding your wedding through adding a unique style of modern calligraphic font that is individual to you and your wedding.

Stationery

The obvious first thought is incorporating the calligraphy into your wedding stationery. And that's a great place to start! If you select 1 or 2 signature fonts, you can use them across your invitations, place cards, service sheets, seating plan, and even the thank you cards later on.

All you have to do is let your printers know exactly the type of font you want. And if you've been practicing your calligraphy, you can get really creative and replicate it in other aspects, such as your place cards or as part of your favours.

But adding the element of modern calligraphy to your stationery is only touching the surface and there is so much more you can do with it.

Decor

Modern calligraphy can form a HUGE part of your wedding decor! Predominantly through signs, but here are just a few aspects of your decor that it can comprise of.

Signs are pretty common at weddings. The classic "wedding" arrow pointing towards your ceremony is a probably a given these days and is available to buy in nearly every craft shop. But there are so many other ways you can be creative with signs, and if Pinterest isn't your best friend for inspiration yet, then I highly recommend you get on it!

I used plywood boards to write different quotes on, and this added a personal touch and was more meaningful to us as a couple. It was my way of sharing a bit of us with our guests. So, I placed handwritten signs on either end of the arch in church that said "Love is Patient" and "Love is Kind" taken from one of my favourite Bible verses. I also had an arrow hung on the arch pointing towards the area where there was tea and coffee being served; both Ronan and I love our tea and coffee (he being the coffee and me being the tea), but there was also a subtle hint in there from one of my absolute favourite books and Disney film - you guessed it - Alice In Wonderland!

Writing on Mirrors is also an elegant way of signposting or illustrating your favourite quote. I used the mirrors to illustrate another of my favourite Bible verses, and also wrote the seating plan on the mirrors in a way that they became a part of the decor. They can also come in handy when the ladies need a top up but don't want to go all the way to the toilets :)

Instead of giving each table a number, we decided to opt for names; this not only took away the hierarchy of "table importance" but it also gave the opportunity to use more modern calligraphy as a part of the Centrepiece at each table.

This is just a small selection of ways that I incorporated calligraphy into our wedding decor, but there are so many other ways that you can utilise it depending on your theme. And even if you've never really considered calligraphy before, its therapeutic power can have a huge influence on your own well-being at a time when you could be facing the intense pressures of wedding planning.
